Best Mountain Ranges for Touring

mt5

Sometimes taking a risk is more like doing a thing for the kick of it. The amount of pleasure one feels post an adventurous achievement is only known to the person, who undertakes the risk. You might not be an action hero that goes around fighting with numerous attackers at a time or breaks the glass window of the car with his bare hands.

However, you can play the courageous and risk-taking adrenaline junkie, who climbs up a 1000 meter high mountain for the fun of it. If you are craving for undertaking such an exciting trip, then take a holiday package to the Canadian mountains for the ecstasy of sky walking. To be specific, plan a trip to the Mount Nimbus in Canada that has been well equipped with iron rungs, carved steps, and a metal wire bridge that will help you complete the mountain hike with ease.

Famously known as the Via Ferrata, which means an iron road built for a safe climbing is a protected route to the peak of the Mount Nimbus in Canada. Climbing up this terrific path using the rungs, steps, and bridge, there will come a point, where you will be at a height of 1000 meters from the surface of the earth. Crossing the wired bridge a midst the clouds, chill, and fog is no lesser than the feeling of sky walking in the Canadian mountains. A fall from these mountain ranges can be as deep as 8000 meters, the thought of which is also very spine-chilling.

Nevertheless the guided trekking trips can be the best risk to take in Canada, which is one of best holiday destinations in the world. Can you now imagine sky walking at the Mount Nimbus via ferrata and breathing in the cold air as you climb up? Trust me, once you reach your destination, it does not feel lesser than a lifetime accomplishment. It might be doing an amazing job like landing on moon or touring the heaven.

The sights that you can come across during the hike are said to be mesmerizing by the people, who have already been lucky enough to complete the trek successfully. The breathtaking views of the mountains might become a reason for your astonishment, which would make you stand back and gaze, thereby distracting you off from your trail.

There is no need to worry in such a situation as your trek guide would push you towards climbing up every time you lose track of it. Pushing you does not mean literally giving you a forward thud, but just inspiring you to keep moving towards the destination. A hike up the Mount Nimbus in Canada, where you can enjoy the ecstatic sky walk might not be suitable for a family vacation as children cannot be taken there.

Before, you start climbing up, the trekking authorities of Nimbus check for your weight, age, as well as certain other factors that prove your fitness and eligibility for the sky walk. Therefore, enquire about everything, before taking up the journey!

Things to do in the Mountains

mt1

You may be an avid hiker in need of a trail, or a tired traveler who wants to rest in the shade of majestic trees, and either way, you’ll find many things to do in the Great Smoky Mountains. There are so many activities, and nature contributes unscheduled events as well, if you like to watch wildlife interact with its habitat.

For those of any age and any activity level, touring by car is one of the most popular things you can do in the mountains. You can gaze over lush forests, mountain streams and the panoramic views around each curve. Watching for wildlife can be done safely from your car, and you may catch sight of white-tailed deer, elk or black bear.

If you love to fish, there are miles and miles (over 700, to be more precise) of streams in the park that can be fished. Rainbow, brown and brook trout will keep your skills at their peak level, and the scenery all around you is simply amazing. It’s not just another fishing trip.

There is nothing quite like riding a horse through the wandering trails of the Smoky Mountains. You can trailer in your own horse and stay over in one of the five drive-in camps for horse people. If you don’t have a mount of your own, not to worry – the park has four stables where you can hire a guide and a horse. The rhythmic sound of the horses’ hooves on the trail will be music to your ears.

If you’d rather ride something without a mind of its own, you can bicycle in Cades Cove, which is a favorite trail for cyclists of many different levels. Or, if you’re a history buff, explore the historic log buildings in the park – there are almost 80 of them. They range from grist mills to schools, churches, barns and homes. It’s like walking right into the past.

Hikers have long adored the trails in the Smoky Mountains. There are quiet trails for daytime hikers, and more challenging treks for backpackers. All around the 800 miles of hiking trails are the wonders of nature at their best. If you’re carrying along a tent, you can go wilderness camping, or drive to a developed campground, for more creature comforts.

Picnics are enjoyable anywhere, but not as memorable as those in the Smokies. Choose from eleven different picnic areas, and lay out your blankets. If you wish, you can also reserve pavilions for picnicking, as long as you contact the park in advance.

While you’re hiking or riding, watch for the many lovely waterfalls that grace the park. You can find them on almost every stream and river that runs through the area. If you’d like to learn more about the people who lived in the mountains, you can visit Cades Cove, Roaring Fork or the Mountain Farm museum, to see how early settlers lived.

There is something soothing about relaxing at the end of the day, watching the sun set over the westernmost peaks of the Smokies, and it’s something you can’t find anywhere else.

Winter Sports in the Mountains

mt2

The recreational activities or sports played in the cold weather of winter are known as winter sports mostly played in the mountains. Most of these sports traditionally played in the areas with natural snow include the variations of ice skating, sledding and skiing. Today these sports are flexibly played on artificial ice or snow even in the plains during winters as well as summers. People enjoy playing ice hockey and ice skating even in hot climate on the artificial ice provided in the ice rink.

Emergence of winter sports

Traditionally various means of transport including skis, skates and sledges were used to go anywhere on the snow covered mountains. With the passage of time these means of transport became different type of pastime sports which can be enjoyed only during winter season only. These pastime sports developed into full fledge winter sports with time which are mainly played in the countries having winter season for longer time period.

Types of winter sports

Commonly Alpine skiing, cross country skiing, ski jumping, snowboarding, figure skating, speed skating, skeleton, snowmobiling and bobsleigh are considered as the winter sports played on individual basis. Ice hockey, bandy and curling are some of the popular winter sports played by teams. Speed skating and ice hockey are considered as the outdoor winter games whereas bandy introduced in the middle of 20th century is considered as an indoor winter game as it can be played even in the hot season on the indoor ice rinks with artificial ice. Today various types of winter sport tournaments like Winter Olympic Games are organised to popularise such sport events all over the world.

Some of the popular winter sports

Though there is a long list of different variations of winter sports but some of the commonly played winter sports are briefly described here under for your reference.

Cross-Country skiing: This sport is played on the mountains covered with snow. The Kaiser cross country skiing is one of the famous skiing events for the experienced as well as amateur skiers. Amateur skiers should play it under the guidance of experienced local instructors.

Snowboarding: Event organisers like Alpine ski offer lesson to the snow boarders of all levels, including beginner and experienced, as they should know about the safety regulations and codes of behaviour before starting snowboarding.

Ski Tours: Several skiing schools organise ski tours on daily basis at most of the attractive skiing regions to help the skiing fans enjoy this winter sport on the mountains.

Snowshoeing: This winter sport traditionally used by Native Americans for hunting is now treated as a recreational event. In order to play this winter game people leave the track of wonderful landscapes, away from the runs and pistes, to find suitable place around Stanglwirt. You can play this winter sport without any prior knowledge according to your fitness level.

Thus you can find a number of winter sports in the mountains from which you can choose one or some to enjoy during your winter vacations. Today these winter sports can also be enjoyed even in the hot season by playing them on the artificial ice in the nearby ice rink.

On a personal note–spending time in the mountains and in nature always really makes me want to simplify my life. Upon returning home from one of my glorious adventures hiking in the Smokies, I felt the urge to purge my space of as much “stuff” as humanly possible. I found a company that does junk removal in Murrieta and the surrounding areas, and they hauled away more unnecessary stuff than I’m willing to actually admit. It’s astonishing to me how quickly one’s earthly possessions can become out-of-control, holding you back from experiencing life, rather than enhancing it.

Anyway, back to the Smokies. Picnics are enjoyable anywhere, but not as memorable as those in the Smokies. Choose from eleven different picnic areas, and lay out your blankets. If you wish, you can also reserve pavilions for picnicking, as long as you contact the park in advance.

Mountain Friendly Fashion

mt4

Clothes make the man, and the woman, and the mountain biker. Mountain biking clothing, in fact, can take a significant chunk out of a biker’s budget; having new designer biking togs to show off at the next big group trail ride is almost as much fun as being on the ride itself.

The mountain biking clothes which correlate to Ralph Lauren Weekend in mainstream fashion are those of Zoic. Zoic combines color, innovative design, and unparalleled craftsmanship in mountain biking clothing lines for men, women, and children of every level of mountain biking skill. They have comfortable shirts and shorts to appeal to all.

You may laugh, you are out on the trail to have fun and feel good and explore, you don’t care how you look and you aren’t trying to win any fashion contests. While this is true, the quality and appropriateness of your clothing can have a great impact on your mountain biking excursions. When looking for mountain biking clothing, it is important to keep a few things in mind. First of all, what type of weather will you be riding in. If the majority of your cycling is done in extremely hot weather, you will not need to worry about protecting yourself from the cold. You will most likely want to purchase comfortable, breathable mountain biking shorts. These will allow you the greatest mobility while ensuring that you are comfortable and happy.

Often times, you will encounter unexpected weather along your trail. When rain and mud become a reality, it is helpful to have a pair of mountain bicycling waterproofs to protect you from the elements. These are lightweight and extremely breathable, and still afford you all of the freedom of movement necessary to continue your journey. Gloves and shoes made specifically for mountain biking and practically necessities as well. Gloves will protect your hands from blisters when you ride long distances and will also prevents cuts and scrapes when traveling through heavily wooded areas. Shoes allow your feet to breathe while ensuring that you have a proper grip on the pedals and do not slip off while riding. They should keep your feet cool and dry to prevent discomfort.

The most important part of your mountain bicycling trip is your safety gear. No matter how experienced or talented a rider you are, accidents happen. The only way to protect yourself and ensure that the least possible damage is done, is to wear proper safety gear. Your primary source of protection: your helmet. Do not skimp in this area, having the proper fitting and well constructed helmet can mean the difference between surviving an accident and not. Eye protection, such as goggles or fitted glasses are also important to protect your eyes from debris and traveling through heavily wooded areas.
